Picks and Pans Review: Raising Hope's Martha Plimpton: From Goonies to Grandma
Twenty-five years after breaking out in The Goonies, the actress, 39, plays a housecleaner with a baby granddaughter on the new FOX sitcom.
YOU PLAY A GRANDMOTHER ON THE SHOW. ANY APPREHENSIONS?
I was a bit nervous at first-because it's true in this town they tend to age women prematurely-but the premise of the show is that I was a teenage mom, so the math works! And it's not as if I'm playing a hunchback old lady.
DO YOU WANT KIDS YOURSELF?
I will say as I get older, I find babies a lot more tolerable to be around than I used to.
YOUR NUTTY GRANDMOTHER IS PLAYED BY CLORIS LEACHMAN.
She's completely out of her mind, but in the best way. She'll do anything for a joke. And she's just as wild when the cameras are not rolling.
CAN YOU BELIEVE IT'S BEEN 25 YEARS SINCE THE GOONIES?
Yes, I can! It feels that long ago. I haven't watched it lately, but I love that it has an ongoing life and has become a staple movie for kids.
