"She's amazed and very, very proud," Brandy told PEOPLE Saturday at the Carousel of Hope Ball in Los Angeles.
"She loves to see me all dressed up," the singer, 31, says of Sy'rai, 8. "For her to see me in all of these bright lights, the camera and the dancing ... it's just really amazing for her."
And what does Sy'rai think of her Mom's partner? "She loves Maks," Brandy says.
And why not? Brandy and Maks were atop the leader board last week, and credit their working student-teacher relationship for their success.
"Being able to apply everything I've learned in rehearsal and being able to translate that on a Monday night" is a benefit, Brandy said.
Added Maks, "I think our strength is that [our] work ethic is just amazing."
