Nothing like a cozy little camping trip to get rumors of romance flying again!
Oprah Winfrey and best friend Gayle King, long the subject of speculation that they might be a couple, saw the humor in their situation on a recent camping trip, even joking about their sleeping arrangements in footage broadcast Wednesday on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
As the friends prepared to spend the night in a small pop-up camper, Winfrey, 56, said: "Gayle, want to go in first?" To which King, 55, replied with a smile: "Why don't you just add to that lesbian rumor?"
"Lesbian rumors," Winfrey replied, raising her arms and grinning. "Come on in, baby," King said as she disappeared into the camper.
Music from The Waltons then began to play, as King called out from inside: "Night, John-Boy! Night, Mary Ellen!"
Winfrey and King were on part two of their outdoor adventure, which is designed to get more African American families to go camping. It was a decidedly unglamorous gig for the talk-show queen, who at one point was filmed shortly after waking up, without any makeup on.
"Thank God for makeup," she said. "The truth comes out when you're camping. You can't hide who you are in the wilderness."
