The Dancing with the Stars contestant and daughter of a former Wasilla mayor says that Johnston will need to get his GED before he can run for office, which is "great." He'll also have to relocate within city limits.
"It is an important position," Palin, 20, tells Ellen DeGeneres on Monday's The Ellen DeGeneres Show. (DWTS partner Mark Ballas appears with Palin.) "And I don't think he knows what he is getting himself into."
Johnston, 20, shouldn't count on Palin's vote, and she says she does not think he'd be a good mayor. It's been just three months since she broke off her engagement for good with Johnston, the father of her 22-month-old son Tripp, but she's still moving on.
"It's really hard for me to want to date after the situation I had myself in," she says, "and I'm not worried about a boyfriend right now."
But there is another candidate she's eager to endorse: her mother, for President.
"I don't know," she says of whether or not her mom will be on the ballot in 2010. "But I hope she does."
