Al Roker, cancer survivor Ethan Zohn, Chilean miner Edison Peña, Howard Stern sidekick Robin Quivers, Anthony Edwards, Ryan Sutter and Veronica Webb are among this year's celebrity participants.
"Almost everybody's bucket list includes running the ING New York City Marathon," Roker said in a statement. "Just the though of being able to start this race gives me goose bumps. As does the fear that the weather might turn ugly."
Luckily for Roker and all the runners, the forecast calls for clear, chilly (albeit windy) conditions for the five-borough race.
As for Zohn, the third time’s a charm for his marathon start. Two years ago, he tore his ACL, and last year, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. "So, 2010 comes along, and this is my year!" During one of his treatments, "I visualized myself every day crossing the finish line … it provided me a lot of inspiration."
And Pena, who was nicknamed "The Runner" for logging up to six miles a day while trapped underground in a Chilean mine, has high hopes for finishing.
"I intend to run the entire 26-mile marathon," he said. "I'm going to give it my best shot."
