BETTY ANNE WATERS

Played by Hilary Swank in the film, she put herself through law school to free her wrongfully convicted brother.

WHAT KEPT YOU GOING FOR 18 YEARS?

It was my love for my brother. Getting up every day kept him alive.

SIX MONTHS AFTER KENNY WAS FREED IN 2001, HE DIED FROM A HEAD INJURY.

He had the best months of his life. He spent a lot of time at the lake, his favorite place. He died a free man.

WOULD HE HAVE LIKED THE FILM?

Kenny would have loved the way Sam [Rockwell] portrayed him. He nailed it.
