But the Montgomery Gentry band member, 47, is expected to make a speedy recovery.
"I will be undergoing surgery to remove the cancerous tumor in December," Gentry says in a statement. "I will be back in January ready to rock for all the fans!"
Asking his followers for support, he adds, "Please keep my family and I in your prayers."
