The only court where Tony Parker wants to wreak havoc right now is the basketball court, a source close to him tells PEOPLE.

In filing his own divorce papers Friday in Texas, the star player for the San Antonio Spurs was merely following "standard procedure" in the breakup with Eva Longoria, the source says.

"This was not meant to escalate things," says the source. "He filed his own papers to protect his rights during the proceeding. … They are still committed to working this out together amicably."

Parker, 28, is taking a different approach as a player, going all out in three games in four days as his team has jumped out to 10-1 start in the season. On the same day he filed divorce papers, Parker was the leading scorer with 24 points in a 94-82 victory over the Jazz in Salt Lake City.

"He's been coping by focusing on work," the source says. "He has been relying on his teammates for support. Everyone at the Spurs has been so supportive of him."
