ABC may have announced that the long-running medical drama plans to shoot an episode devoted to music, but according to one star, don't expect this to turn into Glee's Anatomy.
"Everyone keeps calling this a 'musical episode,' but really it's about the music of Grey's Anatomy," Chandra Wilson told PEOPLE at the Hollywood premiere of Frankie and Alice. "We're basically taking iconic songs from the show, songs that everyone knows, or has heard, and we're going to bring them to life through the characters on the show."
Think less Rodgers and Hammerstein and more Snow Patrol and The Fray.
"We're still going to do a Grey's show," the actress says. "But instead, the music will be essential to what's happening."
With Wilson having gotten her start in musical theater – and costar Sara Ramirez boasting a Tony win for her work on Broadway in Spamelot – it's safe to say that the women have their singing sorted.
As for the men, Wilson says one "Mc" stands above the rest when it comes to carrying a tune.
"Kevin McKidd is a rock star," Wilson says. "We've had the pleasure of hearing him sing, and he's just a rock star! You'd be amazed."
And while viewers can most likely expect the bulk of the solos being handled by Drs. Torres, Hunt and Bailey, Wilson admits that one group number would truly resonate with fans and cast alike.
"Wouldn't it be cool," she asks, "to hear everyone sing 'Chasing Cars'? Wouldn't that be kind of cool?"
