The Bravo reality star, 40, who is also a contestant on ABC's Skating with the Stars, says she approached one of the show's judges after Monday night's episode.
Despite a show policy that states judges and contestants are not allowed to interact, Frankel Tweeted, "OMG.after show I told judge:dude,I don't take personally.this is silly.I'm40&on skates.who cares:he said he's feeling it is personal."
According to a source backstage after Monday's live broadcast, Johnny Weir was the judge confronted, and the interaction between him and Frankel was "pretty intense."
"Bethenny totally went off on Johnny backstage," the eyewitness tells PEOPLE. "She walked up to him on skates and said, 'I'm a grown woman in skates and sequins. I don't take it that seriously, and I don't care about your comments.' "
Adds the source, "She kept telling Johnny, 'Can't you take a joke?' The whole thing seemed pretty dramatic."
Weir has questioned Frankel's level of commitment on the show, telling her during the first critique, "[This] is skating," Weir said. "You need to be in it or stay on the side. You have to really give it your all. I don't want to see another part time project. I want you to really get into it ... Skating has to come first."
Despite Monday night's confrontation, a source says Frankel is not taking the competition lightly.
"She takes the skating thing seriously," the source tells PEOPLE. "She's not getting her feelings hurt. She's working really hard to do the best job she can, and [she's] having a really good time. She's filming two shows, and learning a sport that's really tough. She's spending hours at the rink, but can't help but laugh at herself that she's 40, wearing sequins, and has big hair, attempting these difficult twists and turns."
A rep for Weir did not return request for comment.
