McCarthy, 38, has been quietly seeing a new man, entertainment-sports attorney Paul Krepelka, 43.
"They've been on a couple dates," a source tells PEOPLE of the blossoming – and currently casual – relationship.
Krepelka, who hails from Massachusetts, is "a really nice guy," adds another source.
That should suit McCarthy, who recently revealed her desire to start dating "normal folks."
McCarthy, who will join Ryan Seacrest in Times Square as he hosts Dick Clar'’s New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest, split from boyfriend Jason Toohey earlier this month.
In April, McCarthy and longtime boyfriend Jim Carrey revealed they had split after five years together.
