"The first blind dates were these really bizarre dudes that were like, 'Do you know Sharon Stone?' " McCarthy, 38, says in an interview airing Wednesday on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "And I'm sitting on a date going, 'Well, I know of her. I've seen her in movies.' 'Well, do you think you can get an autograph?' I'm like, 'Oh, my god.' "
Thankfully, her fifth blind date was with Paul Krepelka, a Boston sports agent. They've been dating for five weeks now, and McCarthy jokes that they might already be engaged.
"His accent is so strong, it's like Good Will Hunting strong, that I really can't understand anything he says to me," she says. "He could've proposed to me and I could've said yes by now and I have no idea. And I'm really happy."
The world got a glimpse of Krepelka on New Year's Eve, when he kissed McCarthy at midnight on national television – with McCarthy feigning surprise.
"Everyone thought, 'Oh my god. She kissed a random dude,' " she says. "But no."
For now, the pair are hopping back and forth from Los Angeles to Boston, and McCarthy says she's content – though it's not quite time to take that next step.
"Everybody's asking me the magic question, 'Has he met [8-year-old son] Evan?' " she says. "Evan is, by the way, on the strictest VIP meet and greet, which is like six months. I don't have guys meeting him on a cycle. That boy is very important to me."
