Tuesday night, Stewart arrived at her Westchester, N.Y., home after trips to Cartagena, Colombia and Florida, but she had to leave again for New York City for work. Despite being rushed, Stewart wanted to spend a moment with her French bulldogs, Francesca and Sharkey.
"As I leaned down to whisper goodbye to a dozing Francesca, I must have startled her, because she bolted upright with such force that she hit me in the face like a boxing glove hitting an opponent's face," Stewart wrote on her blog.
Moments after the clash, blood was gushing from Stewart's lip, and instead of heading straight to New York City, Stewart had to go to the hospital emergency room, where Dr. William Nolan, a plastic surgeon with the Center for Dermatology, Cosmetic and Laser Surgery, treated her wound and gave her nine stitches.
"She got hit with a pretty good whack," Nolan tells PEOPLEPets.com. "The cut was through the skin and through the muscle of the lip, so it wasn't just a little, itty-bitty cut."
