"Nothing's sacred anymore," says Lawrence, 20, the breakout star of the indie Winter's Bone, tells the Hollywood Reporter of her marathon makeup sessions for X-Men: First Class, in which she plays the blue-bodied mutant Mystique.
"Those girls and I got so close," she says of her makeup team. "They were painting me naked every day for months. It was kind of like going to a really bizarre sleepover."
She adds, jokingly: "It's what you guys imagine we do: one naked girl and seven pairs of hands all over her."
Having those women "all up in [my] business," as she puts it, wasn't the only challenge in shooting the X-Men prequel. Lawrence had to work out for two hours a day and stick to a strict diet – which was tough for the Louisville native.
"It was awful. I was hungry for five months. I'm still pissed about it," says the actress, who returned to Kentucky and some down-home cooking when she finished shooting. "I'm slowly working my way back, because I have to be able to eat like an a--hole."
