"We set a date at end of May and my manager, who's been my manager since I was 12 and is kind of like my L.A. Dad, wanted to have an official engagement party to sort of kick things off," Rue, 32, tells PEOPLE. "All our close friends and some family came. It was perfect."
Equally perfect, Rue says, is the Amsale wedding gown she picked out the day before the engagement party.
"For me the dress was the most important thing, and now all the other details – the invitations, the place settings, the linens – are all falling into place," says Rue, noting that the non-denominational ceremony will take place at a venue near Los Angeles.
The big day, she hopes, will capture a whimsical yet vintage-y feel, while indulging the couple's playful side. One absolute? "There will be beer pong," says Rue with a giggle as she recalls having played that game with Price when the couple met in 2008.
The only things left to decide – the flowers and the cake.
"I want there to be some incredible flowers to make it feel cozy," says Rue, who's enlisted wedding planner Rachel Hollis to help with the big day.
"The flowers are so important to us. And the cake. We need to find a good cake," Rue says, imploring the Twitter universe for help. "If anyone has any suggestions, please send them along!"
