BIRTHS

It's a boy for Cynthia Nixon, 44, and her fiancee, education activist Christine Marinoni, 43, who welcomed their first child together on Feb. 7. Marinoni, who started dating the Sex and the City star in 2004, gave birth to son Max in New York City. Nixon has two children from her relationship with Danny Mozes.

AILING

A spokeswoman for Elizabeth Taylor revealed on Feb. 13 that the Oscar-winning actress would probably remain hospitalized for a few more days. The Hollywood icon, 79, was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles to get treatment for symptoms of congestive heart failure, a condition she disclosed in 2004. Taylor has battled health problems for much of her life and underwent surgery in 2009 to repair a leaky heart valve.

TROUBLE

Tiger Woods, 35, was fined an undisclosed amount on Feb. 14 for spitting on the green during the final round of the Dubai Desert Classic. The fallen golf champ, who ended up tied for 20th place, committed the salivary infraction after missing a par putt on the 12th green. Woods (inset), who was divorced last year, later apologized via Twitter, saying "[I] just wasn't thinking and want to say I'm sorry."

SPLITS

Ashlee Simpson, 26, filed for divorce from Pete Wentz, 31, on Feb. 9 in Los Angeles. The singer-actress wed the Fall Out Boy bassist in 2008, and their son Bronx was born that November. A source told PEOPLE, "It was a classic case of marrying young, having a kid young and growing apart over the years."

LEGAL MATTERS

On Feb. 11 a judge in Washington, D.C., sentenced Ingmar Guandique, 29, to 60 years in prison for the murder of Chandra Levy, 24, whose involvement with then-Congressman Gary Condit focused national attention on the case. The Salvadoran immigrant was convicted last November of killing the government intern, who disappeared in 2001 while jogging in the capital's Rock Creek Park, where her remains were discovered in 2002.

ENGAGED

Earl Spencer, 46, the brother of the late Princess Diana, who delivered a heartfelt speech at her funeral, will wed Canadian philanthropist Karen Gordon, 38, at Althorp, the ancestral home of the Spencer family in Northamptonshire on June 18. It will be the third marriage for Spencer, who has four children from his first marriage to ex-model Victoria Lockwood and two other children from his second to Caroline Freud.

MARITAL MATTERS Actress Spencer Grammer (inset), 27, of the ABC Family show Greek, married James Hesketh on Feb. 11 at City Hall in New York City. Attending the ceremony were the bride's father, actor Kelsey Grammer, 56, and his fiancee, Kayte Walsh, 29, who will soon be joining the ranks of newlyweds. The day before his daughter's nuptials, the Frasier star's divorce from his estranged wife, Camille, 42, was finalized, clearing the way for the actor to make Walsh his fourth bride later this month.
