If you thought her egg-cellent entrance
at the Grammy Awards was unusual, get a load of Lady Gaga
's new music video for "Born This Way," the singer's first single from her upcoming album
by the same name.
The clip, which premiered online Monday, starts with a Star Wars
-like introduction to an epic space tale. "This is the manifesto of Mother Monster," the singer says while a unicorn and pink triangles flash on screen. "On GOAT, a government owned alien territory in space, a birth of magnificent and magical proportions took place. But the birth was not finite. It was infinite."
Telling the story of the beginning of a "race within the race of humanity," Gaga creates a gooey sci-fi legend before breaking into an elaborate dance routine in a microscopic black bikini.
The video was directed by Nick Knight, along with Lady Gaga, the Haus of Gaga creative team and choreographer Laurieann Gibson, accoring to a press release.
Later, the singer takes her "Mother Monster" self seriously, appearing as a zombie with skeletal makeup, a pink ponytail and a tuxedo.
The song's message of self-acceptance rings out as Gaga raps, "Whether life's disabilities / Left you outcast, bullied or teased / Rejoice and love yourself today / 'Cause baby, you were born this way / No matter gay, straight or bi / lesbian, transgendered life / I'm on the right track, baby / I was born to survive."
Though the song has been compared
's "Express Yourself," the video is certainly unique. However, the Queen of Pop's outlandish video for "Bedtime Story" does come to mind while watching Gaga's latest effort.
