He's still waiting for his love interest, but at least Henry Cavill's Superman now has a mother.

Oscar-nominated actress Diane Lane has signed to play Superman's adoptive mother in Zack Snyder's upcoming reboot of the Man of Steel franchise, Warner Brothers has announced.

"This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman," Snyder says. "We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination."

Lane, 46, who is married to 2008 Milk Oscar nominee Josh Brolin, was nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards for 2002's Unfaithful and has also starred in Under the Tuscan Sun and The Perfect Storm, among other films.

Meanwhile, the search continues to find a Lois Lane for the upcoming Superman.
