Jason Ritter is hyped up – over aliens.
The actor – who stars on NBC's The Event
, which has its season premiere Monday nigh – loves the out-of-this-world plotlines of his current project.
In the two-hour season premiere, Ritter's character, Sean Walker, will finally meet Sophia, the leader of the aliens. He'll also have to make "heartbreaking sacrifice," according to producers of the show.
"The stakes are high – it's life and death," says Ritter, 31.
It's this kind of craziness that the classically trained actor loves about The Event.
"The energy helps hype me up," he says.
So how does he prepare for action sequences like the ones that had him storming cockpits and throwing punches last season? When he can't make it to the gym, he works out at home – sort of. "I do exercises on my Wii," he says. "It's nice to have games that keep you active." But he admits, "It's an excuse to play video games."
Being back on a series (his most recent TV job was on the high school reunion sitcom, The Class
) is a welcome relief to the actor who often finds himself attracted to roles in indies.
"It's not like I've made a gazillion dollars doing independent film, so there's little bit of panic there," says the Hollywood native of making a living as an actor. But he's not doing it for the money.
At an early age, he realized he'd be content as long as he was acting. "I really liked rehearsing," he recalls of his days doing theater in high school. He finally decided about the career, "If I'm able to do it in any capacity, I'll be happy."
Looks like Ritter’s getting his wish.
