Lindsay Lohan Surveillance Video Appears on Web

A jeweler says it made public a surveillance video of Lindsay Lohan in the jewelry store to curb "speculation" and insists its release will not affect the felony grand theft case against the actress.

"We were upset with the various mischaracterizations we were seeing and hearing about the video and its contents, and we felt the video should be allowed to speak for itself," says a statement from Christopher Spencer, a spokesman for Kamofie and Co. of Venice, Calif.

A short teaser clip of the video showing Lohan, 24, looking at jewelry appeared Monday on Entertainment Tonight's Web site. ET planned to broadcast additional footage on its program and its sister show The Insider.

While Spencer declines to comment on what the rest of the tape shows, he says, "We repeat that Kamofie never gave permission to Ms. Lohan to remove the necklace from the store. The rest is up to the jury."

If Lohan doesn't reach a plea deal, the tape could become evidence at a trial. But the jeweler believes that the tape's release "should have no impact on the outcome of the criminal proceeding," says Spencer.

"The video would be released during the actual trial anyway, as has been explained by several prominent criminal attorneys," Spencer says. "Release of the video at this time does not violate any law."

Media outlets were invited by Spencer's Beverly Hills-based company over the weekend to inquire about obtaining the rights. No financial terms were disclosed by either Spencer or ET.
