Landing at 10:30 in the morning at Belfast's George Best airport amid tight security, they were greeted by the city's Lord Mayor, Pat Covery and Dame Mary Peters, Lord Lieutenant of Belfast and a former Olympic pentathlon champion.
In an eight-car motorcade, they then made their way to City Hall, where they accepted a photograph of the building and a book on its architectural history, as well as met representatives from the charity PeacePlayersInternational.
Outside City Hall, the couple met representatives from the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children and flipped pancakes with local children at a Shrove Tuesday fundraiser hosted by the charity, reports the BBC.
As word spread of the visit, a crowd gathered to cheer on the couple, who spent time greeting and chatting to well wishers, reports the Press Association.
As for what they wore, the two were elegantly turned out, as usual, with Kate in a beige, double-breasted coat with frilled hem detail. William wore a blue suit.
