It appears Pete Wentz is at odds with his soon-to-be ex-wife Ashlee Simpson over custody of their 2-year-old son, Bronx.
The musician, 31, filed a divorce response Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court seeking joint custody of their child.
Simpson, 26, who filed for divorce last month, indicated in her filing that she's seeking sole custody of Bronx with visitation for Wentz.
However, legal experts say that because of the limited detail in divorce filings, it's too early to say if the couple are truly headed for a custody battle.
"We remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our No. 1 priority," the couple said in a previous statement.
Wentz's attorney wasn't immediately available for comment, but a source close to Wentz tells PEOPLE, "There's no fire. It's a very straightforward response asking for joint custody and fair distribution of attorney's fees. He's not gearing up for a custody war."
