Andrew Ferguson's memoir shares some advice-and some adventures-from his son's quest to gain admission into college.

College fairs are all the same. Once you've seen one, you've seen them all.

Demystify the Ivy League by having your kid spend a day with real Ivy Leaguers.

Visit all student restrooms on the campus tour; they often unlock the school's secrets.

Avoid the Internet as much as you can. There is such a thing as too much advice.

RELAX. Chances are overwhelming that your child will be happy wherever he or she ends up.
