E!, Sundays, 10 p.m. ET/PT |
Beautiful, frivolous and inescapable as a shadow fitted in skintight couture, the Kardashian sisters are the Gabors of the new media age. Kourtney & Kim is E!'s third Kardashian showcase, with a fourth due later this year. Like Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami, Kourtney & Kim focuses on two of the K's as they open a retail outlet. Passing bold-faced days and nights in the pursuit of brand extension, they pause to discuss with distracted flatness their emotional issues, including whether Kourtney's Trump-ish boyfriend, Scott Disick, is over his bad-boy stage. None of this is as fabulous as it could be. Why do we watch them eat salads from deli containers? Why does Kim celebrate her birthday at a keg party? But they think they're fabulous, and that silly touch (nicely parodied by Saturday Night Live) gives the show a lift-they're thisclose to Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion.
FOX, Tuesdays, 9 p.m. ET/PT |
The only FOX freshman series to survive the fall, this sitcom about a dim-bulb single dad and his low-rent family is brashly cheerful and perfectly cast. Lucas Neff, the dad, is straight man to scene-stealers like Martha Plimpton as his mom. She manages to be totally thoughtless yet well-intentioned-a small, killer turn.
