RENEE & BRADLEY WHAT WENT WRONG?
When Howard Stern grilled Bradley Cooper about his girlfriend Renée Zellweger during a March 14 radio interview, the fiercely private actor told him, "I'm not going to talk about that." He was holding back big news: Four days later sources revealed the couple had broken up after nearly two years of dating. "At the end of the day, they weren't on the same page," explains one source. The couple, who met when they filmed Case 39 in 2006, initially seemed to be a good fit. "They totally just clicked right from the beginning," says the source. "They're both such low-key people." Though they never hit a red carpet together, Zellweger, 41, and Cooper, 36, were quite the jet-setters: Early in their relationship they took a PDA-filled trip to Barcelona; she also joined him on location in Vancouver and Philadelphia. Sources say they worked hard to keep their relationship on track. "They were always busy, but they put a lot of priority and energy into each other," says one insider. (Both stars had been previously married and split after less than six months each.) Last fall the pair moved into Cooper's $4.7 million L.A.-area home, which the actress-who has an apartment in New York City-helped decorate. Says the source, Zellweger "was pretty head over heels about their relationship," and looking forward to a future with Bradley. In February she skipped the Golden Globes to be by Cooper's side when his father, Charles, passed away after a long illness. But "their relationship began slipping away," reveals the source. "Bradley reevaluated a lot of things in his life." Another source says the split "was a completely mutual decision." Publicly, the pair are handling the breakup well: Zellweger, says an onlooker, "seemed really happy" at breakfast on March 20 in New York City, and that night she hit the Broadway premiere of Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Meanwhile Cooper is promoting Limitless and had dinner with pal Zach Galifianakis at Kittichai in New York City on March 16. Says a source: "They're both moving on."
BRADLEY AND RENEE through the years
"I can't say enough about her," Cooper said last September while promoting the couple's film Case 39. "I just love her. I [loved] coming to work. I love acting with her. I can learn so much from her."
The romance went public when Zellweger joined Cooper in Barcelona in 2009. "They have fun together," a source said.
After meeting Bradley's parents over Christmas 2009, Renee often bonded solo with Charles (above, last June) and Gloria.
"She was a very good girlfriend," a source says of Zellweger (on a road trip with Cooper last September). "She spent the last year really seeing if it could work out between them."
CHRIS BROWN'S GMA TANTRUM
THE SINGER STORMS OUT OF THE MORNING SHOW AFTER QUESTIONS ABOUT RIHANNA
Chris Brown left quite a mess after his Good Morning America appearance March 22 to promote his new album. After the interview, says an eyewitness, "he appeared livid." As for damage to his career, "It's certainly not the best decision in the world to have an incident like that on the day your album comes out," says a music insider. His rep could not be reached for comment by press time.
