BIG LOVE'S BEST MOMENTS

THE CEREMONY

Season 1 ended with Barb, the most senior wife of Bill Henrickson (Bill Paxton), disgraced and disqualified from being named Mother of the Year. As played by Jeanne Tripplehorn, Barb was a pragmatic woman with ever bigger doubts about her spiritual (and sexual) life.

VISION THING

In season 2, Bill began to toy with the notion of taking a fourth wife, waitress Ana (Branka Katic). This didn't work out too well, but it allowed viewers a glimpse into Bill's fundamental mystery-was he the religious pioneer he fancied himself or a deluded creep?

ON TRIAL

A crystallizing moment in season 3: Bill's middle wife, Nicki, avenges herself on her repulsive old father (Harry Dean Stanton) by tripping him up on the steps. Chloe Sevigny, throughout the show, was a muddle of righteousness and misjudgment-a funny, furious performance.
