Since Regis Philbin announced he was leaving Live! With Regis and Kelly
this season after 28 years on morning television, many names have been thrown in the ring as possible replacements
, including Survivor
host Jeff Probst.
However, Probst tells PEOPLE that his recent contract extension through seasons 23 and 24 of Survivor
reflects his happiness being a host and producer of the long-running reality series and he won't soon leave for other opportunities.
"Whoever replaces Regis will have to fill some of the biggest shoes ever worn on television," Probst, 49, says. "He's a legend, and working with Kelly [Ripa] would be a treat. I'm flattered to even be mentioned as a replacement."
However, Probst adds, "I love the idea of doing a daytime show, but for me the big obstacle is location. I have an amazing life in California and moving to New York right now is just not in the cards."
Probst keeps up with viewers on the East Coast, though, by Tweeting
during the first airing of Survivor: Redemption Island
on Wednesday (8 p.m. ET) on CBS.
"I saw Howard Stern tweeting during an airing of Private Parts
that randomly came up on cable," Probst says, "and I thought, 'Why am I not doing this with Survivor
fans?' It's pretty amazing. I'm in my living room, usually with friends over hanging out, the fans are in their living rooms, but we are all together in a virtual living room. This interactive global conversation is the future!"
