Courteney Cox and David Arquette
and David Arquette have shed some light on the reasons they broke up
– and the revelations are as personal as they get.
The amicable pair
, who star in Scream 4
together, took to the airwaves Thursday morning and opened up to Howard Stern on his Sirius radio show.
What started as a fun question about why Cox rejected Arquette's advances at Disney World
quickly turned into a more serious dissection of their issues as a couple.
One of their biggest problems? Sex. Arquette wants it too much – and at too many inappropriate times, says Cox.
But Arquette says the situation is more complicated, insisting, "I know I'm more in touch with what she needs now … She takes one sort of thing or a couple times and she clumps it and that's what happens all the time in our relationship. It's not really true."
But Cox says that getting hit on at Disney World was too much.
"That was like the worst – I can't even tell you. I had just woken up, he'd been up – you know he doesn't sleep," she says.
"The truth of the matter is that we love each other so much. We have such affection for each other, but we are very different," Cox continues. "I'm a homebody. I like to have people over, but I'm a little socially not – I don't love it. David – he doesn't drink anymore, he's completely sober – but he likes to go out and dance. He really is a very gregarious guy. He's very outgoing. I'm much more of an introvert."
Stern also presses Cox on rumors that she's romantically involved with her "co-stars," presumably including Cougar Town
's Josh Hopkins, whom Cox and daughter Coco recently vacationed with
in the Caribbean.
Cox's rep has said the pair's relationship is "completely platonic." While Cox doesn't specifically deny a romance, she says her costars "really don't want to get involved in this mess," referring to her personal life.
Asked if she's had sex with anyone else since her split from Arquette, she's blunt saying, "I have not had sex."
When Stern suggests that her costars may have less-than-platonic feelings for her, Cox says, "If they do, they're not letting me know. I mean I think they like David too much and it's too weird of a situation."
