Karina Smirnoff and Ralph Macchio

Minutes after Monday night's Dancing with the Stars
, Karina Smirnoff couldn't shake the fact that her tiny tumble
while performing the paso doble with partner Ralph Macchio likely cost them higher scores from the judges.
While they earned a respectable 24 out of 30 points, tripping over Macchio's coat "was disappointing, because it was such an awesome routine and Ralph was doing such an awesome job," a dejected Smirnoff said backstage. "I think the floor is jinxed."
Fellow season 12 partners Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Kirstie Alley
agree with Smirnoff. After falling while performing the rumba
three weeks ago, veteran pro dancer Chmerkovskiy saw that a pattern was long emerging at the ballroom.
"That spot [where Smirnoff fell] is where everybody has fallen," Chmerkovskiy observed. "This is where Misty (May Treanor) fell, Marie Osmond fainted, we fell, they fell tonight."
And it's also the site where Heather Mills fell in season four. Is Chmerkovskiy onto something?
"I think Tom Bergeron is the one making everyone fall," Alley jokes, noting that the spot where so many have gone down is precisely where Dancing
's beloved host stands for most of the show. "If you look closely I think you will probably see the shenanigans he's up to when we're not on the dance floor. Always go for the nice guy. Always."
Conspiracy theories aside, Smirnoff says she hopes she and Macchio get a second chance to show viewers the first-rate performance they've worked so hard to perfect.
"I really hope we get to do the encore dance Tuesday," Smirnoff says. "That would be my way to get redemption."
