Changes are afoot at the Today
Meredith Vieira, who has been rumored to be considering leaving her gig
as co-host on the morning show, is indeed moving on, a network source tells PEOPLE.
"Meredith has decided she simply does not want to continue with the grind of a daily morning news show," says the source. "This isn't about leaving to tend to her family – it's about being done with the phase of her career that requires this sort of a daily, on-air commitment. This didn't come out of the blue and is something she's talked about for some time."
show news anchor Ann Curry will reportedly take over as co-host once Vieira leaves, according to The Hollywood Reporter
The network source tells PEOPLE of Curry, "That currently appears to be the plan for the immediate future."
According to another source, a formal announcement of the changes on the morning show will be made Monday.
Vieira, 57, took the job co-hosting alongside Today
show vet Matt Lauer in 2006 when Katie Couric left to anchor CBS Evening News
In a People.com poll conducted earlier this month, 54 percent of readers
who participated said they thought Curry should replace Vieira if she left. Curry has been the show's news anchor since 1997.
