Unlike Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, this version has a happy ending.

"We are happy to announce that both children are home safe," the parents of Jackson Powell, 18, and Nicole Dones, 17, said in a joint statement Monday, after the runaway teen couple returned to their Miami-area homes after two weeks on the run.

Details of their escapade have yet to be released, although Miami-Dade police say it appears Nicole had willingly fled with her boyfriend.

"We want to thank everyone for their concern and well wishes during these last two weeks," the families' statement continued. "Please know as parents our focus will be to help our children learn from this and then begin to do what they need to do to move on with their lives."

The couple's disappearance made national headlines after a local detective described them as a "modern-day Romeo and Juliet" because both sets of parents didn't approve of the relationship.
