Oscar De La Hoya says he's always "met challenges head-on" and that his latest one "is no different."
The 37-year-old former boxing great, who was once named to PEOPLE's Most Beautiful list, spoke of his approach to adversity following a report that he entered rehab for substance abuse.
Although he didn't specifically confirm the report over the weekend by TMZ,
he issued a statement saying that he has sought help.
"After doing an honest evaluation of myself, I recognize that there are certain issues that I need to work on," he tells the Web site. "Like everyone, I have my flaws, and I do not want to be one of those people that is afraid to admit and address those flaws."
He adds, "I am confident that with the support of my family and friends, I will become a stronger, healthier person."
