It's been a season of laughs, tears and injuries for many contestants on Dancing with the Stars. But on Tuesday night, only one of the 11 couples who competed on ABC's hit show walked away with the coveted mirror ball trophy.

Both Hines Ward and Chelsea Kane were just one point shy of two perfectly scored dances at the end of Monday night's show. But Kirstie Alley, who ended up with five points less than the other finalists, has been a fan favorite all season.

And the mirror ball trophy went to...

Ward and partner Kym Johnson.

They jumped in the air and hugged as confetti dropped.

Hines lauded Johnson as "an amazing teacher" and thanked the judges "for giving us constructive criticism."

"I also want to thank all the fans," he said.

Alley finished second and said, "This the most extraordinary adventure I've ever been on in my life."

Kane finished third.
