was left speechless – well, not quite – after her husband Josh Duhamel
surprised her with a loving tribute on stage Wednesday at New York City's FiFi Awards.
"She doesn't know I'm here. … I pulled a fast one on her," Duhamel, 38, quietly told PEOPLE backstage before helping to honor Fergie, 36, with the New Celebrity Fragrance of the Year award for her Outspoken scent for Avon.
Duhamel then strolled on stage to introduce his wife – and, knock on wood, future mother of his kids
– much to her amazement.
"I said I was golfing tonight," he said from the podium. "She's the kindest, most thoughtful person I've ever met. A true inspiration … the best thing that ever happened to me. My partner in crime, the yin to my yang, the froth in my cappuccino, the woman I love."
When Fergie came to the stage, pointing her finger at him, Duhamel threw his arms around her and grabbed her backside. "Oh, my Gosh, I love you babe. This is crazy," she said. "My husband pulled the biggest one on me. … I love you, honey."
and wearing a lemony dress by BCBG, she let the surprise sink in, and couldn't stop herself from letting a profanity fly. "I still can't believe you guys did that," she said of Duhamel and his co-conspirators. "You f––kers!"
Fergie said it was humbling to have "the biggest fragrance launch in Avon's 125-year history." At the end of her speech, she again thanked Duhamel, calling him "my BFF with benefits."
