Drama came with a price – $19.8 million, to be exact – Thursday night as The Real Housewives of New York City star Sonja Morgan finally confronted her financial hardships on-camera with her costars.
After a focus group meeting for Jill Zarin's shapewear line turned into an opportunity to talk about Morgan's bankruptcy, which made headlines at the time the episode was shot, the Housewife had a message: mind your own business about my business problems.
"I'm a private person," Morgan, who followed in the financial footsteps of The Real Housewives of New Jersey's Teresa Giudice, later told fellow Housewife Ramona Singer on the episode. "I don't think anyone really needs to know," she added.
Recouping from a divorce from John Adams Morgan and Chapter 11 bankruptcy – she listed $19.8 million in debt and $13.5 million in assets on her petition in November – Morgan insisted that she's a fighter. Her biggest battle? Keeping her home and being there for her daughter.
"The recent events have been very heavy because it's public and people are looking at me under a microscope," she continued, with tears in her eyes. "I'm heartbroken."
Following the episode, Morgan used her blog on Bravotv.com to explain further: "It has been a steep learning curve in a business I knew nothing about," she wrote, referencing a fruitless movie investment that sparked her finance woes. "I am back to doing what I know and will recover some of my loss with continued hard work ... Facing this reality is not pretty for me."
