Ryan Reynolds might be a devoted dad to his 2-year-old dog Baxter, but don't ask him to identify his breed.
"[He's] some kind of half golden retriever, half collie, half of some other little chunk of something in there," he told PEOPLE. "Ignore the math. You know what I mean."
The Green Lantern star first met Baxter in 2009 while visiting a Houston animal shelter to find a dog for his friend. But while there, "I saw this big, dumb-looking retriever staring up at me," he told ABC News last December. "I whispered to him, 'Hey, let's get the hell out of here.' And he jumped up, like he spoke English fluently. He came with me, he jumped in the car, and we've been best buddies ever since."
Though Reynolds quickly adjusted to his role as an animal parent, that doesn't mean he and Baxter haven't experienced some growing pains.
"The last thing I returned was a dog brush. It didn't work well at all," he said. "It was supposed to get rid of all the shedding hair and it didn't."
