Julianne Moore on the cover of Health
You might expect Julianne Moore – a four-time Oscar nominated Hollywood veteran – to feel at home on the red carpet.
Not so, insists the actress.
"I never feel confident!" the star, 50, tells Health
magazine. "I don’t know that there's anybody who does. I mean, you don't look around the red carpet thinking, 'There's a lot of confident people out here.'"
Not even when you look as good as she does?
"The big thing about being 50 is the bar is much lower – People are like, 'Oh my God, you look great!' So that's sort of good," she says with a laugh. "I have very strong hair, that's just genetics. And I credit my mother for keeping us out of the sun."
As for her stance on cosmetic surgery, "My feeling is live and let live," Moore explains. "But some of those procedures that make you look younger – I don’t know that they really made anybody look younger. I think most of the time they made you look like you've had something done to your face."
This summer, Moore stars in the much buzzed-about movie Crazy, Stupid, Love
, costarring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling
. But she's particularly excited about playing Steve Carell's wife.
"I love [Steve Carell]," she says. "He's so gifted: His sense of timing and the quality of his humor and depth of it. He grounds everything emotionally."
