Cat Deeley Eager to Meet Kate at BAFTA Dinner
"I've never met Kate," says Brit Cat Deeley, the host of So You Think You Can Dance, of the Duchess of Cambridge. "I'm really looking forward to it actually!"
Deeley has been tapped to be an emcee of sorts at the BAFTA 'Brits to Watch' dinner at the Belasco Theater in downtown L.A. on Saturday.
"I am going to be introducing the films that are about all the new upcoming talent and Brits that have made a real splash in L.A.," Deeley tells PEOPLE, "and that's everybody from producers, directors, people in front of the camera, people behind the camera. I'll keep everything moving along and pitching along nicely."
To those that may wonder why the Royal Couple is spending its time in L.A. meeting British compatriots, the dinner "is about introducing young, real, talented writers, directors and actors to some of their Hollywood heroes," says BAFTA chairman Tim Corrie.
The list of 42 Brits to Watch includes Mentalist star Owain Yeoman and actor Harry Lloyd, recently in Game of Thrones.
Says Corrie, "For me to be in a room with them, and with the Duke and Duchess, and the heads of studios, Nicole Kidman and Barbra Streisand, is very extraordinary."
William, the Duke of Cambridge, is the president of BAFTA, but "he's more than 'in title,'" says Corrie. "He's really important to us. He came to our awards and, as he said when he made his speech, 'There's nothing better than sitting down in front of a good film.'"
As for Kate, Deeley says, "She has handled herself with such dignity and poise during all these different royal events and above any of that, she just seems really easy with her smiles."
