While visiting Kenya as part of her work with The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
, Kristin Davis got up close and personal with one of the nation's native residents.

DSWT aims to protect and preserve Africa's wilderness and its endangered animal population, specifically black rhinos and elephants. Davis's contributions to the cause were recognized in March by the Humane Society of the United States, which awarded the actress the prestigious Wyler Award
"Being with the elephants is hard to even describe," she told PEOPLE at the event. "They communicate through these deep tones that we can't hear, but we feel the vibrations. And they're just so entertaining, we never wanted to leave them."
