Kate Hudson ended up being a successful actress and loving mommy of two, but she doesn't credit her charmed life with being overly disciplined by her mom and dad growing up.

"My parents allowed my brother and I to have our freedom," she tells Elle magazine. "[We could] be ourselves and feel confident in our choices and make mistakes without too much judgment."

Hudson, 32, who has "had lots of talks about parenting and being a working mom" with her mother Goldie Hawn, says she hopes she "can do as good a job" as her parents did with letting sons Ryder, 7½, and Bingham, 4 weeks, find their own path without unnecessary criticism.

"[My mom] never hands out unsolicited preachy words of wisdom," Hudson says.

Although the Something Borrowed star just gave birth to Bing with fiancé Matt Bellamy – and the duo has a wedding in the works – Hudson has no plans to slow down her fast-paced lifestyle.

"I would never want to be with someone who complains and goes, 'Oh, my god, my life is so crazy,' " she says. "If you make the best of it, it can be amazing."

"Most relationships I've had in my life have been with people who travel quite a bit for work," Hudson continues. "It is nice to be with somebody who understands having to be on the move."
