All of the nominee-performers also performed at last year's CMA Awards, and three are past winners. Paisley, who's also co-hosting the awards on ABC Nov. 9 with Carrie Underwood, picked up Entertainer of the Year for the first time in 2010 after being nominated for it every year since 2005. Swift won in 2009. And Urban received the award back in 2005.
Shelton, who was named male vocalist of the year at 2010's ceremony, is vying for the prize for the first time.
Aldean, Paisley, Shelton and Swift are the top overall recognized artists, with five nominations apiece.
