Judging from recent interviews
and Tweets, it is clear that Cher has nothing but love and support for her transgender son Chaz Bono.
But that doesn't necessarily mean the iconic entertainer, 65, always believes Bono is capable of everything he sets out to do.
Following an upbeat performance on Monday night's Dancing with the Stars
that surprised judges
, Bono, 42, admitted to PEOPLE he was "interested to hear what [Cher] thought because she thought I was not going to be able to do this."
"My family hasn't seen this side of me before," Bono goes on to say.
But if Cher feels the same about her son's version of the cha-cha as he does, then the reaction should be positive.
"I was nervous going into it, but I was also excited," Bono says. "I think it went pretty well. There were certain little things that I messed up or didn't do, but it was good and it was fun. I had a good time doing it."
Although Bono was one of the more pleasantly surprising acts of the night, he doesn't expect his skills to broaden the minds of those who are automatically not voting for him because he is transgender.
"There are certain people who are never going to change their view about anything that's out of their comfort zone," he says. "I went out there and did the best I could for all the people who have
been supporting me. I've received tremendous support from people."
