When Heather Locklear announced in August that she was getting hitched to her longtime boyfriend, actor Jack Wagner, she wasn't the only one happy about the upcoming nuptials.
Her 14-year-old daughter, Ava – dad is rocker Richie Sambora – is equally thrilled about her mom's big day.
"Ava was so excited when we told her," Locklear, 50, says in PEOPLE's new special issue Gorgeous At Any Age.
"She hugged Jack, said congratulations, and she immediately wanted to see the ring. Then she ran and Facebooked her new stepbrother."
"I want her to do what makes her happy," explains Ava. "That's the main point."
As for Ava's own love life, she has Mom's seal of approval on her new boyfriend.
"He's tall and plays guitar," says Ava. "He's so sweet."
Jokes Locklear: "She's like, "I like a musician.' ... How weird. Where does she get that from?"
