With Eddie Murphy out as host of the Oscars, the search is on for his replacement. But who is beloved, charming and recognizable enough with the comedic timing to carry the most famous awards show? No one said it had to be a person.

A social media campaign has emerged on Facebook and Twitter advocating for Jim Henson's Muppets to take over hosting duties at the 84th Academy Awards on Feb. 26.

With their own feature film out in theaters Nov. 23, Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and the gang are certainly experiencing a career resurgence. And just imagine the fashion possibilities for Piggy.

As of Thursday afternoon, just 24 hours after Murphy announced he was stepping down, the Muppet Facebook page had more than 28,000 "Likes."

Hey, it worked for Betty White!
