For fans looking to whet their Hunger Games
appetite, the odds are ever in your favor – as the Suzanne Collins trilogy teases.
"It's 24 of us," Jennifer Lawrence, playing fierce and feisty heroine Katniss Everdeen
, says in the movie's trailer, which debuted Monday on Good Morning America
. "One comes out."
The peek at the film adaptation of the best-selling series, which follows Everdeen's post-apocalyptic journey through the ultimate televised game of life-or-death, offers a glimpse into the dark and dreary world of District 12.
As Everdeen steps up for the competition to spare her younger sister, the trailer shows Lawrence readying for survival mode – which includes getting her legs waxed for the sake of the cameras that will document her adventure.
Also putting on their game faces: Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, who play rough as love interests Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne, respectively.
"The characters and the story are so interesting, it just drives you," Hutcherson, 19, said in an interview following the trailer. "I've never read a character in a story that I connected with more than Peeta."
