Matt Lauer may be stepping down as host of NBC's Today show – and none other than Ryan Seacrest might be in talks to take his place, according to reports.
Seacrest's contract with E! News expires early next year and Lauer, 53, has said that he plans to leave the Today show when his contract expires at the end of 2012. Both programs are owned by NBCUniversal.
There is speculation that Seacrest, 36, might make frequent guest appearances on Today next year, even possibly as a co-host, reports the New York Times.
