Hugh Hefner's New Year's Resolution: Remain a Bachelor

Almost exactly one year ago, Hugh Hefner popped the question to then-girlfriend Crystal Harris – but following the rollercoaster of events, including a breakup, that took place since the proposal, the Playboy mogul says his goal for 2012 is to do what he does best: stay unwed.

"This year has been a very interesting year for me, I almost got married," Hefner, 85, recently told PEOPLE at the Playboy Mansion.

"And as Holly (Madison) – a dear friend and former girlfriend – said, 'Well, you missed a bullet.' I think that's accurate. I am clearly not meant to be married. Married life isn't for me."

That said, Hefner says not walking down the aisle was one of the things that made 2011 "a very good year for me."

And despite toting his "two very special ladies," – Shera Berchard and Anna Berglund – on his arm these days, the Playboy mogul says as long as he doesn't get married in the coming year, he’ll be "on top of my game."
