Days after Russell Brand filed for divorce from Katy Perry, the estranged couple rang in 2012 on opposite sides of the globe.
Brand, 36, spent a low-key New Year's Eve at the Savoy Hotel in London with friends, reports the U.K.'s Daily Mirror.
When a hotel patron wished him a Happy New Year, Brand replied stoically: "Here's hoping it gets happier," according to the Mirror.
Meanwhile, Perry, 27, was presumably still in Hawaii – where she was vacationing with friends, including one who Tweeted about a "last day in paradise" on New Year's 2012.
Next up: the singer has shows scheduled in Manila and Jakarta later this month.
