The New Girl actress, 31, filed for divorce on Dec. 27 from Death Cab for Cutie front man Ben Gibbard, 35, according to court documents.
The papers list their date of separation as Oct. 31 – Halloween – and cite irreconcilable differences.
In November, a rep for Deschanel confirmed that the couple – married since 2009 – had separated.
In a later interview with PEOPLE, Deschanel declined to discuss the cause of the split, but said, "We're friendly. It's all fine."
