Jim Carrey's Daughter Auditions for American Idol

Monday January 23, 2012 01:40 PM EST

Having a celebrity parent doesn't automatically open the doors to Hollywood – at least for Jane Carrey, the daughter of Jim Carrey, whose audition for American Idol aired on Sunday.

Jane, 24, says she's a mom and has been a waitress for six years, but is now ready to take her shot at the big time. "It was definitely fun growing up with him as a father," Jane said on Idol. "He's not the most extravagant celebrity so it's been fairly normal, fairly."

Jane, who auditioned in San Diego by singing Bonnie Raitt's "Something to Talk About," said she’s eager to make her own mark in the entertainment industry and that it's been difficult to live in her famous dad's shadow.

"I like you. I like the voice," Randy Jackson said. "I like the potential."

Jennifer Lopez, who appeared on In Living Color with Jim Carrey in the early '90s, also praised Jane, but said she’ll have to work on connecting with the audience.

Steven Tyler gave Jane an enthusiastic "yes" when asked if she should be sent to Hollywood, though said she’ll need to work on volume when singing.

When Jane calls her famous dad to inform him that she’s being sent to Hollywood, he yelled, "Yay!" and said his little girl is "so wonderful."

Jane, who is a mom to her nearly 2-year-old son, filed for divorce from her husband Alex Santana last October.
